Ting-hua (Ellie) Wu
Clarinet & Piano

As a dedicated clarinetist and educator with a deep passion for both performance and teaching, Dr. Wu (Ellie), who speaks Taiwanese Mandarin and English, holds both a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and a master’s degree in Clarinet Performance from Boston University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Clarinet Performance from National Taipei University of Education. She has had the privilege of studying with renowned teachers, including Robert Patterson, David Martins, and Chin-Chun Lin.
Originally a native of Taiwan, Dr. Wu has performed around the world since emigrating to America, sharing her music in the U.S., Germany, Austria, Japan, and China. Along the way, she has participated in major music festivals such as the Curtis Summer Festival, Domaine Forget International Music Festival, Aria International Music Academy, the International Summer Academy of Nice, and the International Clarinet Association Conference.
Dr. Wu loves playing in both chamber groups and large ensembles, always finding joy in collaborating with other musicians. Since her undergraduate years, she has made it a tradition to give a recital every year, simply because she loves sharing music with others!
Beyond performing, Dr. Wu is passionate about music education. She teaches private clarinet lessons, works with Winds Band, and leads general music classes. She also believes that clarinet playing can be enriched by exploring other fields, such as the Alexander Technique, sports medicine, and mental therapy.
When she’s not making music, Ellie also loves reading, swimming, and chatting with friends from all kinds of backgrounds—she’s always amazed by how unique everyone is! She also has a huge passion for traveling and discovering new places. And hopefully, one day, she’ll have a cute cat to keep her company.
