Yvonne (Yizhi) Wan
Piano

Yizhi Wan is a pianist and piano educator based in the Boston area. She holds a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College, where she studied with acclaimed pianist Donald Berman, and received her undergraduate training at Wuhan Conservatory of Music in China.
Passionate, expressive, and naturally energetic, Yizhi has always experienced music as something meant to be deeply felt and openly shared. As both a solo and collaborative pianist, she brings a strong sense of character and emotional connection to the music she plays. For her, performing is not simply about playing beautifully—it is about communicating something real and making the music come alive.
That same energy is at the heart of Yizhi’s teaching. Her lessons are lively, interactive, and highly personal. She pays close attention to each student’s personality, musical instincts, and individual way of learning, and enjoys finding what makes each student light up at the piano.
While building a strong technical foundation, Yizhi encourages her students to listen closely, experiment with sound, use their imagination, and discover the character behind the music. She wants them to go beyond playing the right notes and begin developing ideas, emotions, and a musical voice of their own.
Most of all, Yizhi hopes her passion for music is contagious. She wants students to feel her excitement in every lesson and leave the piano with more curiosity, confidence, and enthusiasm than when they arrived. To Yizhi, one of the greatest joys of teaching is seeing a student become genuinely excited about music—and discovering that the piano can become a place for creativity, expression, and joy.
