Mikiko Sato is an accomplished composer, music director, pianist and a singer from Japan. Her works include Theatre, Classical, Jazz and Electronic music. Her theatrical works have involved directors and actors like Yoshiko Mita, Toyokazu Minami and Koji Uchiumi to name a few. Recently, she has become more involved in songwriting using her unique musical background, incorporating subtle Japanese sensibilities of seasons, nature and scenery. She has been performing her originals in various countries including Japan and the US. Her passions have served her well as both a music director in theatre, as well as an educator in composition, piano and vocal performance.

 

Born in Yokohama Japan, Ms. Sato began playing the piano at the age of three and soon started taking classical piano lessons. She also started to play the electric organ at the age of eight and learned film music, pops, classical and orchestra pieces. She entered Tokyo College of Music and majored in classical composition under Professor Shinichro Ikebe and also jazz piano under Prof. Rick Overton. She received her Master’s Degree in Classical Music Composition. Her eagerness and desire for growth brought her to learn at Berklee College of Music in 2017. She was listed on Dean’s list for every full semester she enrolled. She had her studied in Boston under professor Lisa Thorson and graduated in December 2020 with summa cum laude, Professional Diploma Songwriting. Ms. Sato also received the Contemporary Writing and Production Award from Berklee CWP Department.

 

Her desire is to spread her music, and the many genres which it spans, to all of the world.  In her spare time, she enjoys cooking.

 

Mikiko is fluent in Japanese and English.
